Cannock Chase road finally reopens after devastating wildfires
A road in Cannock Chase has finally reopened following the recent wildfires in the area.
It remained temporarily closed after the huge blaze that engulfed the area at the beginning of August, due to the heightened risk of other fires following it.
A section of Chase Road was closed by Staffordshire County Council after two fires ripped through 15 hectares of internationally rare heathland in the Sherbrook Valley area last month, which amounted to 22 football pitches of damage.

Both blazes killed a number of lizards, adders and other animals in its wake.
Rangers also discovered a badger skeleton and burnt nests on the ground with eggs – some unhatched.
Chase Road, was closed between the Camp Road turning and Brocton Nursery, for everyone’s protection while the wildfire severity risk remained high.
With temperatures comfortably lower and the welcome arrival of wet weather, the road has today (1 September) reopened to all road users.
Hayley Coles, Staffordshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, said: “I’m pleased to say, with the wildfire risk now lower, we were able to safely lift the closure on Chase Road this morning.
“Please continue to respect the rules about not using barbecues or campfires at our country parks.
“We know at least one of the fires was caused by someone using a disposable barbecue. You’ve now seen for yourselves the devastating consequences this can have.
“The Chase belongs to all of us and we all must do our part to take care of it so future generations can enjoy it like we do now.”
