Anonymous collective holybones today share their new single ‘ENGLISHMAN’ featuring fellow Londoner Hak Baker.
Over muffled electronics, rapper-singer Baker nonchantly muses on the bittersweet truths of being English. The result is another life-affirming, narcotic brew of electro-euphoria that has fast become holybones’ signature.
Commenting on the single, holybones say: “Hak’s a living legend, so to get into the studio together and make this track together is just crazy. For us, it’s a story of what it means to be English – creases and all. That said, it was effortless joy making this one and we can’t wait to play it with him”
Hak Baker adds: “‘ENGLISHMAN’ is a monologue of the trials and tribulations of men in the country that have taught us we don’t need anyone.”
‘ENGLISHMAN’ follows previous singles ‘did you ask for this’ and ‘SLUGBOY’, featuring Baxter Dury. The collective released their debut EP ‘I got a good night’s sleep’ last autumn. The six-track collection unfolded as a tale of hope and disconnection, each track a vignette drawn from the origin story and the lives around them.
