Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Confirmed to Bring Back Killed-Off Major Character

Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Confirmed to Bring Back Killed-Off Major Character

As Dexter fans know, killing off a character doesn’t always mean that they won’t be seen again in the franchise. That makes it no surprise to learn that another deceased character will return in the upcoming season of Dexter: Resurrection, despite his shocking death in Season 1.

Per Deadline, it’s been confirmed that David Zayas will return as Angel Batista in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. There had been rumors that the character would appear, possibly as a hallucination for Dexter (Michael C. Hall), given his importance to the franchise. In the first season, Batista tracked Dexter to New York with the hopes of finally exposing him as the Bay Harbor Butcher. He died after being shot by Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), the billionaire founder of a secret society of serial killers, after Dexter tried to save him.

Along with the Deadline confirmation, Zayas was also recently spotted filming a scene with Call in Times Square earlier this week. That could have fueled speculation that perhaps the character survived after all, even if it seemed more likely he’d be coming back as a ghost that only Dexter can see. However, it’s been verified that the character is very much dead, though how he will be used in Season 2 remains to be seen. It’s possible that it could be a flashback sequence if not as a ghostly vision for Dexter.

With Batista deceased, Dexter will see another very familiar face coming back into his life in Season 2. Desmond Harrington will be reprising his role as Joey Quinn after his brief cameo in the first season. He has been upped to series regular, so it’s expected that he will have a much bigger presence in the new episodes. Of course, given what happened with Batista, there’s a good chance that Quinn could end up meeting a similar fate. Longtime fans certainly know that no one is truly safe in the world of Dexter.

Also returning for Season 2 is Krysten Ritter as the serial killer Lady Vengeance. She died in Season 1 as well, and it remains unknown if she will appear as a hallucination, or in some other capacity. James Remar is also back as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s late father who serves as his moral conscience. Additional returning cast members include Uma Thurman, Jack Alcott, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, and Dominic Fumusa.

As for the newcomers, it’s been reported that Brian Cox will be the new big bad with his role as the unidentified serial killer known as The New York Ripper. He’ll be joined by Dan Stevens as The Five Borough Killer and Gabriel Luna as The Sleepy-Eyed Stranger. Bokeem Woodbine is also joining the cast as Capt. Mixon, while Nona Parker Johnson plays his daughter, Fiona, who serves as a new love interest for Harrison Morgan. Friday the 13th star Kane Hodder has also been cast in a mystery role.

Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is currently in development and does not yet have a permiere date.
