The venue has been listed as permanently closed but it isn’t all bad news

A Smithdown Road bakery has closed unexpectedly after the venue was spotted boarded earlier this week. Decent Donuts, which has been based in the area for five years, has been listed as permanently closed on Google.
The venue was among many food and drink options on the road, bringing a range of unique bakes to the table after opening during the pandemic. Despite its name, it sold far more than donuts – the venue’s shelves were regularly stacked with cookies, dot cakes, cookie cups and cupcakes.
Owner, Anthony Polanowski, from Bootle, started the business from scratch during lockdown using his student loan and savings to make his dream a reality.
At the time of launching, the former business management student told the ECHO: “I’d never made a cake in my life before lockdown. One thing led to another and I started making donuts at home and my family and friends said I should start selling them because they were so good. It boomed overnight.
“I was sick of going into places and receiving rubbish service or not the best food. At café chains, you pay a premium price but you don’t always get that back in the service or products. I wanted to break that stigma.
“Everything was self-funded by me. I didn’t have any financial help, so it was a massive risk and investment on my part taking on the shop premises and especially going into an industry I haven’t been in before.”
The ECHO reached out to Decent Donuts for further information. However, fans will be glad to know that it appears not all to be bad news.
The brand’s Instagram account, which boasts thousands of followers, has recently been updated with the company teasing the possibility of a new venture called Decent Bakes.
This isn’t the only food venue closing this week for Liverpool. The Bagel Factory, located on Wall street in Liverpool ONE, has been boarded up with its sign removed.
The company, well known for its fresh bagels, offered customers a selection of fillings and allowing customers to create their own combinations alongside classics like smoked salmon and cream cheese and salt beef melt.
A spokesperson for The Bagel Factory confirmed the business’s final day fell on July 21. A new occupant is set to be announced but the identity and opening schedule is yet to be confirmed.
