Good news for anyone who found the ticket scramble for Game Of Thrones: The Mad King more bloody than the Battle Of The Bastards: the hit play is going to be much easier to see in the not-so-distant future. The stage show has been a hit on stage in Stratford-Upon-Avon this summer – staged there by the RSC, in the home of Shakespeare himself. And as that limited run winds down, none other than George RR Martin himself has delivered some great news: the show is getting a bigger release when it transfers to London next year.
Game Of Thrones: The Mad King has been confirmed to be moving to the capital at some point in 2027 – though a specific theatre and date is yet to be announced. “I had an absolutely splendid time in Stratford-upon-Avon for the premier and am thrilled the production will be moving to London to share the experience with a wider audience,” Martin said in a statement. “It promises to be an exhilarating journey.” The show is written by Duncan Macmillan, directed by Dominic Cooke, and explores the events around ‘Robert’s Rebellion’ – a key point in the overall Game Of Thrones timeline, never before explored on screen or in the books.
Once The Mad King has settled into a new home, it should be able to open its doors to thousands more Westeros obsessives – and next year will also bring the second season of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms. It’s a Game Of Thrones feast! (And hopefully not the Red Wedding kind.)
