The Last Temptation Of Becky (FrightFest 2026) – A Bloody Good Time

Jonathan Millott and Cary Murnion first introduced us to the wise-cracking, bone-snapping Becky Hopper (Lulu Wilson) in 2020 with the first Becky film, a home invasion flick where a 13-year-old girl gets revenge on a gang of murderous neo-Nazis who come to her father’s lake house looking for a hidden key. This was followed by The Wrath of Becky in 2023, where our titular teen hunts down another group of violent men when they kill her caregiver and take her dog, leading to her being recruited to the CIA by Agent Kate Montana (Kate Siegel). Enjoying its UK premiere at FrightFest 2026, Jenn Wexler takes on the third instalment in the franchise, The Last Temptation of Becky, where our heroine faces off against, you guessed it, another group of far-right terrorists.

The Last Temptation of Becky follows a now grown-up Becky working for the CIA as a field agent, notorious for going rogue and repeatedly resorting to Plan C – ultraviolence. CIA Director Baker (Fiona Marr) is at her wits end trying to reign Becky in, and as a last ditch attempt to bring her in line, she sends her on a reconnaissance missions to Poland to infiltrate a family running an inn at The Wolf’s Lair, one of Hitler’s WWII bunkers. When she learns the father, Wilhelm Reuss (Neil Patrick Harris), plans to spark the Fourth Reich, she refuses to return home with the intelligence and instead decides to take out the Nazi group one by one.

The two previous Becky films have had mayhem running through their core, and The Last Temptation of Becky is no exception. It wastes no time in getting straight into Becky’s ruthless nature as she beats a target to a pulp on a dancefloor, much to the shock of clubgoers and not to the shock of her fellow field agent Jordan Rigby (Brandon Flynn). The film takes glee in putting some of the worst people on the planet through absolute hell with creative, practical kills that will have viewers kicking their feet with glee. It could be hard to root for such a ruthless and sadistic killer as a lead, but Wilson makes it effortless with Becky’s quick wit and heart of gold that she masks with her tough exterior.

The comedy contrasts starkly with the cruelty of the Nazis and their plan at the centre of the film, offering a stark reminder that their ideology and actions are not just confined to history, but the present with a resurgence of far right groups across the world. The Last Temptation of Becky may not seem like a political film on its surface, and it balances its more serious themes with wacky gore and comedy perfectly without ignoring the serious implications of these political shifts.

Wilson is integral to pulling this feat off, embodying the powerful and caring yet brutal lead who fans of the franchise have come to adore. The coming-of-age films have seen fans follow the actor from a young girl to a full-grown woman, and her performances have gone from strength to strength this whole time. Neil Patrick Harris is similarly captivating as Wilhelm Reuss, the embodiment of savagery and inhumanity who will stop at nothing to bring about the rise of the Fourth Reich. He easily switches from warm and welcoming to his true self in the blink of an eye, a testament to Harris’ star power and talent we’ve seen through his decades-long career.

The Last Temptation of Becky builds on what we’ve seen and enjoyed in its predecessors – violence and lashings of blood galore – with a stark political message that is, sadly, as prescient now as it has ever been. Though its exposition dumps in its second act slow the pace right down from its rip-roaring opening, Wexler’s film gets right back on track with its chaotic final act that twists and turns in ludicrously fun ways throughout. Wilson’s Becky has become a Final Girl for the ages, and though The Last Temptation of Becky’s ending leaves her fate hanging in the balance, I could happily see a new Becky film churned out every single year just to see her hack and slash her way through baddies and telling endless bad jokes just for the sheer fun of it.
