With Apple’s iPhone 18 expected to launch this week, major retailers like Sky Mobile and Amazon are knocking hundreds off the current line-up.

Apple may reveal its iPhone 18 line-up this week at its ‘Surprise and Shine’ showcase on Wednesday (September 9). While nothing is confirmed just yet, the tech giant’s annual autumn event is historically when it lifts the lid on its new handsets.
As well as the base edition, rumours suggest we may see Apple’s first foldable phone and a new-and-improved Pro model. The downside is that prices are likely to start at around £1,100 for a potential iPhone 18 Pro, so shoppers should be ready to put their hand in their pocket for this powerful model.
In the lead up to Apple’s showcase, some major retailers have quietly been slashing the price of the iPhone 17 line-up, including knocking hundreds off the iPhone 17 Pro. Sky Mobile has knocked the 17 Pro and unlimited data bundle from £61.50 to £50.50 when spreading the cost, saving a whopping £396 over 36 months.
A caveat is that this is spread over a 36-month handset contract and 12-month SIM plan, with a £12 upfront payment also required. Currys-backed site Mobiles.co.uk offers the Pro for a lower £41.99 per month but a higher £69 upfront with iD Mobile’s 200GB double data deal.
Buying the phone outright is also considerably cheaper than usual, with Amazon and Argos offering the 17 Pro for £949 and £999 (was £1,099) respectively. Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro is days away from its first birthday, but it’s nowhere near obsolete and could be an ideal alternative to the upcoming models for those considering upgrading.
Apple iPhone 17 Pro with unlimited data
Sky Mobile is offering Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro for £50.50 per month and £12 upfront with an unlimited data plan.
One of the standout features of the iPhone 17 Pro is its brain, the A19 Pro chip that’s Apple’s fastest processor ever. It’s around 50% faster than the iPhone 15 Pro so can run even the most demanding apps smoothly and efficiently without overheating thanks to an internal vapour chamber.
It also has a tough unibody aluminum frame in Silver, Deep Blue or Cosmic Orange, each of which has scratch resistant Ceramic Shield on the 6.9” Super Retina XDR display, and the back of the phone. The camera now comprises a three-lens 48MP system capable of capturing high-resolution photos with up to eight times optical zoom, as well as videos up to Dolby Vision 4K.
The 17 Pro ’s battery has been upgraded to, delivering up to 37 hours of video playback and fast-charging support so it can be brought back to 50% power in roughly 20 minutes. In terms of software features, it comes with iOS 26 out of the box, alongside Apple Intelligence tools for writing, photo editing and ChatGPT-Siri integration.
We don’t yet know the specifications of any potential new iPhones, but if a Pro model is revealed this week it will most likely be faster, smoother and feature upgraded cameras and software. This will come at a cost though, with prices expected to start around the £1,100 mark.
Reports suggest it could cost even more due to memory supply shortages that have pushed up the cost of consumer DRAM, which means Apple now pays more for memory, MacRumors reports. This is all speculation at this point, with the exact details expected to be revealed on September 9.
The iPhone 17 Pro was unveiled in September 2025, when the Daily Express Technology Editor David Snelling gave it a perfect five stars in his review. Among his highlights were the phone’s ‘herculean’ processor and ‘glorious’ ProMotion display.
“The new iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max pack quite a punch,” he said. “They finally look different, get improved processing, longer battery life and will keep cooler under pressure.
“The cameras are superb, the screens are sharp, and they offer bonus extras such as professional video recording. If you love Pro devices this is definitely a year to upgrade as the changes are pretty dramatic over previous models.
“Just remember that these are now more expensive, and the cheaper iPhone 17 has had a major upgrade this year. There’s no question that 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are the ultimate iPhones, just be prepared to pay a premium to have one in your pocket.”
