Last weekend saw the release of Romanchakam, Ramba Oorvashi Menaka, Saha, I’m Game (dubbed version) and Bethlehem Kudumba Unit (dubbed version). Besides these new releases, Ravi Teja’s Irumudi continued its theatrical run.
With nearly half a dozen films available to moviegoers, audiences largely preferred two films. Among the new releases, Romanchakam, starring Sumanth Prabhas, emerged as the first choice.
The film grossed around Rs 8 crore worldwide in its extended opening weekend, which is a good figure for a Sumanth Prabhas starrer. The film performed particularly well in Hyderabad and the USA. Over its first five days, “Romanchakam” collected around Rs 6 crore in the Telugu states and added another Rs 1.8 crore from overseas, with North America alone contributing around $150K. The film’s worldwide gross thus came close to Rs 8 crore.
Allari Naresh’s “Ramba Oorvashi Menaka” had a slow start on its opening day but witnessed some growth on Saturday and Sunday, particularly in B and C centres. However, the film failed to make much of an impact in Hyderabad and other urban markets.
Saha, I’m Game are disasters
Saha, which had generated attention after its female lead said she would tonsure her head if audiences declared the film a bad one, turned out to be a major disappointment at the box office.
Dulquer Salmaan’s “I’m Game” was another washout. The film failed to release in theatres across the Telugu states on the first day and began screening only from Saturday. However, the delayed release could not help its box-office prospects, and the film ended up as a flop.
Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju starrer “Bethlehem Kudumba Unit,” the Malayalam blockbuster, also arrived in the Telugu states last weekend in its dubbed version. Despite receiving decent reviews, the film registered only ordinary collections.
Irumudi continues its run
Meanwhile, Ravi Teja’s “Irumudi” continued to hold its ground at the box office. Released on August 21, the film remains a draw, particularly among family audiences, and added further revenue during the latest weekend. Despite the arrival of several new films, Irumudi continues to remain one of the preferred choices for moviegoers.
