Temperatures are steadily dropping across the country ahead of the autumn and winter season. If you haven’t got the time to get away abroad to somewhere much warmer, that doesn’t mean you’re out of options.
In fact, you could get your hands on a short stay at a historical cottage with its very own hot tub to keep you warm and cosy. At the same time, you could get the opportunity to soak in the peaceful atmosphere of Northumberland.
Strathmore Lodge is a country-style Victorian stone cottage in the idyllic town of Wooler. Surrounded by natural beauty, the cottage gives guests the opportunity to explore a variety of wildlife, gorgeous landscapes, and quaint villages.

This includes potential trips to Langleeford, Ingram Valley, Linhope Spout, and the village of Seahouses, all of which are just a few miles away from Strathmore Lodge for easy access. This also provides the opportunity for guests to engage in a variety of cosy activities, including walks across two gorgeous beaches, at the border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed as well as river walks.
Strathmore Lodge itself retains much of its original Victorian features and charm, coming equipped with a stunning entrance hallway that leads to a spacious lounge for guests to wind down in. The large bay window looking out of the front property also lets guests take in stunning views while they relax in the winter evenings next to an included wood burner.
The property’s enclosed garden features a large lawn for guests to enjoy, which is also equipped with a large working hot tub that can help keep you warm on even the coldest winter nights. Housing up to six guests with three bedrooms, visitors can grab a stay at Strathmore Lodge for as low as £979 for a seven-night stay in November.
If you want to stay somewhere else in the area, though, you could opt for a seven-night stay at Fenton Drive from £874 for seven nights. Fenton Drive is a detached cottage in Wooler which provides plenty of facilities for guests, including an en-suite and off-road parking.
Otherwise, you could visit Teviot Cottage from £411 for seven nights. This stone-built cottage in the village of Corbridge offers a luxurious interior and enough space for families to enjoy time together.
Visitors who previously stayed at Strathmore Lodge had plenty of praise for their stay, with one happy guest writing: “The cottage is a lovely find in a very beautiful part of the world. Wooler is an excellent base with lots of restaurants, pubs and lovely shops. The accommodation is perfect for large groups.”
Another wrote: “Excellent location. Luxury products supplied by the owner-very much appreciated Secure garden making it ideal for children and animals. Lovely village within walking distance. Excellent homemade cake left by the owner. Wonderful house especially for a family gathering.”
A third said: “Great house just a couple of minutes walk to the town centre. The house has been decorated very well with comfy beds and sofas, and some great touches with quirky touches. I would not hesitate to book again.”
A fourth added: “We had a fantastic stay. The house is beautiful, loved the decor. The wonderful welcome pack with local produce and home baked cake for us and a pack for our dog was such a nice touch. It’s just a short walk into Wooler and a drive to the coast. The hot tub was an added bonus which we used. We would happily stay here again.”
A fifth said: “The house was lovely and very well equipped when we had a problem with the boiler Catherine sorted it immediately and arranged for engineer who arrived within the hour. We all had a great stay dogs included.”
Customers planning to stay, though, should note that only six people are accomodated by three bedrooms (two per person). Therefore, if you’re travelling with a much large group who may all want separate rooms, you may not be able to fit them into Strathmore Lodge.
This is also paired with the fact that the property comes equipped with three bathrooms, which while sizeable for many groups, may not be enough for larger ones.
