Twisty mystery thriller starring Jenny Seagrove and Anna Friel
Year: 2026
Certificate: 15
Sombre and glacial, this drama is based on the celebrated novel by Nuala Ellwood, and stars Jenny Seagrove as Kate Rafter, a war reporter returning to her childhood home after the death of her elderly mother. There she confronts the memories of her past – and no, they aren’t happy ones – while also dealing with the atrocities she witnessed in Iraq and concerns for a vulnerable neighbour.
There’s strong support from the likes of Anna Friel as Kate’s alcoholic sister Sally and Ben Miles as Sally’s husband, plus David Bradley and Olga Kurylenko, but there’s a lot of woe and misery to wade through in a film shot in various shades of black and grey, before the shock ending pays off.
