‘Subtle’ autumn candle from Next praised for ‘fresh and zingy’ scent

A ‘zingy and refreshing’ change from Pumpkin Spice, the seasonal Yankee Candle has an impressive 80 hour burn time

As the nights draw in and the temperature starts to dip, many of us light scented candles in our homes feel a little warmer and cosier. While candle lovers know that pumpkin spice is often the scent that dominates autumn, the sweet smell isn’t to everybody’s taste.

Next is selling a Yankee Candle with a fragrance that offers a more subtle take on autumn, blending clove, lavender and eucalyptus woods for a scent inspired by a crisp autumn day. It could be a good option for anyone who isn’t a fan of the sweeter pumpkin-inspired scents that tend to fill shops as soon as September arrives.

Available to buy for £30 at Next, the Yankee Candle Autumn Daydream Signature Medium Jar 2 Wick Candle has a refreshing scent that is reminiscent of autumn strolls. With a burn time of up to 80 hours, the candle will bring a seasonal ambience for many a cosy evening.

According to Next, the fragrance notes include clove, clary sage and persimmon at the top, followed by rhubarb, lavender and geranium in the middle. The base combines eucalyptus woods and balsam, giving the candle a fresh, woody finish rather than the rich vanilla and cinnamon notes often associated with autumn.

The description paints a picture of taking a walk through the woods on a fresh autumn day. Its combination of woody, floral and spicy notes could make it a versatile choice for those who want their home to smell autumnal without being overly sweet.

If this doesn’t quite hit the spot Next is also selling the Yankee Candle Witches Brew. Described as “a spellbinding swirl of patchouli and dark woods, grounded in moody spices,” the scent of a bubbling cauldron is also £30 for the medium sized jar. There is also the iconic Spiced Pumpkin scent, a firm favourite with seasonal traditionalists.

Elsewhere at NEOM, the Cosy Nights Scented Candle has dropped in time for the ‘ber months, priced from £42. According to fragrance expert, Alice du Parcq, it has “smouldering, coal-rich notes of roasted sandalwood embers are blended with spiritual and syrupy-sweet frankincense and a touch of freshly-grated, invigorating nutmeg.”

For candle fans looking for something more of a centre piece, the Textured Ceramic Woody Round Multi Wick Candle is £22 from Dunelm. Featuring multiple wicks for a beautiful, even burn, this candle is ideal for cosy evenings or adding a stylish focal point to any living space.

Shoppers who have already snapped up the Next Yankee Candle Autumn Daydream jar have given it a sweet-smelling 4.5 out of five-star rating. One buyer said: “I love this fragrance… it’s fresh and zingy! I bought a large jar as a treat for Autumn and it really is lovely! It’s burning in my lounge and it gives off a eucalyptus waft every time I walk in there… even when not lit!”

Another called it ‘beautiful’ adding: “I’m not usually keen on autumn scents, too leafy or appley but this one is beautiful. Its very herbal with lavender, geranium and clary sage.”

A third said: “This has a lovely subtle smell, definitely reminds me of Autumn. Burns evenly and can smell it when I walk into my large living room.”

One buyer was less impressed however, noting: “Candle was not the colour shown on picture. Deep plum colour which did not expect.”

Finally, a different shoppers said it was a good seasonal buy, adding: “A lovely warm and cosy fragrance, perfect for Autumn.”
