And thanks to the latest Nintendo Direct, we finally have more than just a general release window, but a release date and what we can expect from the next instalment in the franchise.

When is the Professor Layton and the New World of Steam release date?
According to the Nintendo Direct, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam will be released on 10 December 2026.
Luckily for you non-Switch 2 owners (myself included, sob), the game is also coming to the Switch, PlayStation 5 and Steam.
And by avoiding the GTA 6 release date in November, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam has secured itself a nice spot just in time for the Christmas period.
What to expect from the Professor Layton and the New World of Steam remake
Fans can expect new mysteries and puzzles to unravel as they rejoin Professor Layton and his loyal apprentice Luke in this new adventure.
Set one year after the events of Professor Layton and the Lost Future, this new game is set in a Steampunk town called Steam Bison that prides itself on inventions.
In terms of gameplay, developer Level-5 has decided to take the series into full 3D scale for the first time ever in the franchise’s history. However, from the snippets of footage we’ve seen, it’s clear that the art style has kept its same charm.
Since the last Professor Layton game that starred the Professor himself was over a decade ago, and with the previous game, Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy, that starred Layton’s daughter not living up to expectations, a lot is riding on this next instalment.
