Line of Duty actor Vicky McClure has a special connection with the south Wales valleys and with this particular dementia charity which has raised thousands

Trigger Point and Line of Duty star Vicky McClure has shown her salt-of-the-earth status once more after partying at a Welsh rugby club fundraiser to raise money for a dementia charity, just days before she took to the red carpet in London.
Before VIP-ing it at the premiere of Oasis documentary, Don’t Look Back in Anger and winning the National Television Award for Best Drama Performance for her role in Trigger Point, Nottingham native, Vicky was partying hard at Ty Nant Miners club in Beddau near Pontypridd.
Vicky was at a special Day Fever event where £4,500 was raised for Our Dementia Choir – a cause close to Vicky’s heart as she formed the choir in her hometown back in 2018. Vicky saw first hand the impact of dementia, having helped care for her grandma who died in 2015. Vicky also saw the amazing effect that music had in calming her down as well as giving the family glimpses of her old nana.
The Beddau event, Day Fever v Dementia saw Vicky and husband, filmmaker Jonny Owen, from Merthyr Tydfil, bring their daytime disco event to the south Wales village. From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What’s On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here.
Jonny, who met Vicky when they worked on his 2013 film, Svengali, said south Wales valleys people are the “best in the world”.
He said; “We were overwhelmed with the generosity of the local people. I’m very proud to come from valleys stock and it’s my two brothers’ local Working Men’s club and it’s so important we look after those places.
“Vicky loves it here in Wales too (she said she’s been adopted now) and we were humbled by the welcome we had and the work that went into the event and the amount they raised. Best people in the world for me!”
Day Fever has been going since 2024 and is aimed at the over 30s who crave a nostalgic nightclub experience – but without all the unwanted bits that come with getting that bit older so, you get an afternoon out (events run from 2pm until 8pm), great music, a chance to dance but can still get eight hours sleep afterwards.
