It is seldom seen that a film’s own producer ends up creating more doubts about the project than building curiosity around it. That seems to be the case with Naga Vamsi’s latest interview, where his unusually candid comments about the film and director Aditya Hasan have raised questions among the audience.
During the interview, the anchor brought up Aditya Hasan’s earlier off the record statement that he was curious about how audiences would receive Vaishnavi’s character.
Responding to this, Naga Vamsi said, “I don’t know why the director got that doubt. People will love and relate to her character.”
While the intention may have been to reassure viewers, the larger conversation appeared to have the opposite effect, bringing the director’s doubts and internal creative discussions into the spotlight.
Vamshi also revealed that he had creative differences with Aditya Hasan from the very beginning. According to him, the director, along with music composer Hesham Abdul Wahab, leaned towards a more class-oriented approach. Convincing the director to add certain layers to make the film more appealing to the younger audience reportedly became a challenge. Vamsi even described Aditya as a stubborn director, further highlighting the creative friction behind the project.
Adding to the uncertainty, Vamsi mentioned that the film does not contain any major cinematic “bangs” and instead progresses like natural events unfolding in real life, dropping down the expectations further.
He also said that the climax could feel abrupt to those who become deeply connected to the narrative. Interestingly, he suggested that dissatisfaction with the climax would itself indicate that the audience had connected with the story.
Well, on lighter note to say, if the reviewers are disappointed and give bad ratings, even then it should be understood that they actually connected with the film.
However, such explanations can come across as an attempt to pre-justify potential criticism rather than generate excitement. Instead of simply marketing the film, Vamsi’s comments exposed several concerns, creative disagreements and possible limitations.
Overall, the interview made Naga Vamsi appear less confident about the film than expected. His attempt to project the perceived minuses as pluses may have unintentionally diluted expectations and created additional doubts among the audience. Need to see what actually is there in the film.
