If you can imagine a Norwegian Big Little Lies – but then shift your expectations just a little lower – then you’ve got the gist of The Perfect Lie, a seven-part thriller about the secrets kept by hot suburban couples in fancy houses. Our way into the story is Karen, who moves to the fancy enclave of Bergen, where she joins an exclusive group of friends called ‘The Dinner Club’. 

One of the rites of passage for The Dinner Club (also the name of the book this is based on) is that the women all have to jump into a swimming pool naked, and there’s certainly no shortage of hormones, booze and giant wine glasses flying around in this close-knit community of gym-toned high-earners. 

Then, one day, one of their fancy homes goes up in flames, someone dies, and it becomes apparent to Karen that all her ‘friends’ are hiding something. Karen takes it upon herself to learn the truth of it all in a glossy, sexy thriller that benefits from being stuffed full of characters and plotlines. The acting feels much better if you watch it with subtitles, but the English dub isn’t too bad, either. (Seven episodes)
