Netflix's New 10-Part Dark Crime Thriller Is Officially Taking Over Streaming

There’s a new crime thriller that’s taking over on Netflix, and it’s one of the streamer’s most twisting shows in years. Netflix has arguably become the home of great crime thrillers. 2026 saw the release of Jon Bernthal’s record-breaking His & Hers, alongside Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen and The Whisper Man, while the streamer also boasts modern classics like Mindhunter, Ozark, and Better Call Saul. But the streamer’s latest crime thriller series was released with very little fanfare. However, despite the lack of marketing, it has skyrocketed its way up the streaming charts to become one of the biggest shows in the world.

After debuting on Aug 28, Netflix’s Mousetrap is one of the hottest shows on streaming right now. The South Korean series is based on the webtoon Field Mouse by Ludovico. The series has become a hit for many reasons. It has received great reviews, and the performances are fantastic. But what makes it truly entertaining, and terrifying, is how concerningly real its premise is. The show follows Jae Moon-je, a young writer whose life is turned upside down when his identity is stolen. The hacker seizes all his financial assets, sells his apartment, and leaves him in ruins. Desperate to reclaim his life, he enlists the help of No-ja, a private investigator, to catch “The Rat.”

Netflix’s latest TUDUM streaming numbers have revealed just how successful Mousetrap is. The series is the number one non-English Series on the platform right now. Over the past seven days, it earned a staggering 4.4 million views. That also makes it the fourth most popular show on Netflix this week (regardless of language), with The Death of the Pastor’s Wife (13.9 million views) in first, Beauty in Black (8 million) in second, and The Gentlemen (6.7 million) in third.

‘Mousetrap’ Is Another Critically Acclaimed Crime Thriller

Mousetrap‘s success isn’t just defined by its dominating streaming stats; it is also an incredibly well-reviewed series. The series holds an 80% Rotten Tomatoes rating. At the time of writing, not enough RT user reviews have been submitted to generate a Popcornmeter score. But Mousetrap does boast a 7.0 rating on IMDb.

Netflix’s Non-English Shows Are Some of Its Best

If you only limit yourself to the English-language series on Netflix because of (yucky) subtitles, then you’re missing out on some of the best shows around, including Mousetrap. We strongly advise you to embrace subtitles (but not the English dub; dubs are notoriously terrible) because it will open you up to a whole world of incredible series on Netflix. Sticking with the crime thriller theme, there’s also the Swedish thriller, The Åre Murders, or the Spanish Money Heist. Or, if you’ve already binge-watched Mousetrap (well done, you), you might be in the mood for another great South Korean series. Squid Game is the obvious go-to, but its popularity often overshadows hidden gems like All of Us Are Dead, Hellbound, or The East Palace.
