Nicki Minaj’s Resurfaced Racy Look Sparks Fresh Backlash As Fans Revisit Her Daring Fashion Moment

Nicki Minaj recently branded herself the White House Barbie. With her growing involvement in politics, she has largely stayed away from sharing her fashion moments. However, that does not mean fans have forgotten some of her memorable looks from years ago. Some recently revisited one of the rapper’s racy looks, which drew criticism from some fans.

The 43-year-old has long embraced a bold and playful fashion style. She has never shied away from stepping out in outfits of her choosing. Therefore, when she attended Haider Ackermann’s show during Paris Fashion Week in 2017, she turned heads with a revealing top. 

According to the Blast, Minaj almost bared it all in what appeared to be a rather minimalistic look. She attended the fashion event in a black, half-sleeve Mugler button-down jacket top that exposed part of her chest. The rapper added an Agent Provocateur diamond-shaped pastie to the look. 

She paired the revealing top with a pair of olive-colored leather Givenchy shorts. Adding a little extra drama to the look, the rapper put on Alexandre Vauthier tall lace-up heels. Minaj certainly turned heads with the look, but when a clip resurfaced from the event, it sparked fresh criticism. 

Many fans called the Barbie World rapper a “queen” for her bold look. However, a critic slammed them, writing, “Y’all call anybody queens and kings; real queens don’t dress like this.” Another critic chimed in to ask, “What kind of brain she has?” “I blame Janet Jackson for this s—. Now it is no longer a wardrobe malfunction but fashion,” a third brought the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show controversy to the table.

Her look also drew comparison to that of lil Kim’s purple ensemble from the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards. A Reddit user once pointed out, “She’d rather die than admit she’s inspired by lil Kim,” while reacting to th 2017 look. The two rappers have feuded for years and had several rap battles.

Minaj’s controversial fashion lookbook had many pages. From music videos to high-profile events, she was lauded for being unapologetically herself. She even changed her style from dressing in a color palette to monochromatic outfits. 

According to Vogue, the rapper addressed her dramatic style change. She revealed how the change came with her maturing. She said, “When you turn a certain age, especially milestone ages like 30, 40, 50—your confidence as a woman just grows and grows.”  “You know what looks good on your body; You start knowing what hairstyle fits your face, what makeup fits your face. You just start understanding yourself better,” the Anaconda songstress shared.

Minaj was earlier seen in a rainbow of colors from head to toe. Besides wearing vibrant colors, she also experimented with different wigs, some of which featured two colors at once. The rapper further shared that her style resembles her true self. 

She said, “When you understand yourself better, you forgive yourself. You are able to love yourself, and you’re able to love the imperfections that you never loved before.” Like her earlier fashion choices, her social media presence was also more vibrant. It looks very different now. However, she still embraces bold outfits and statement wigs.
