Amazon’s upcoming adaptation of the 1974 horror novel Carrie isn’t even out yet, but it already has one very important fan heaping praise on the series. Stephen King, the legendary horror author whose career began with Carrie, has shared his glowing first impressions of the latest take on the story. King’s approval gives fans even more reason to get excited.
Posting on Threads, King called the new series “brilliant.” He continued, saying that “what it has to say about social media is shocking and true.” Mike Flanagan is helming the Amazon adaptation, modernizing the classic story by bringing it into the world of smartphones and cyberbullying. While much of Carrie’s characterization and the overarching plot will stay the same, the inclusion of modern technology promises to bring a new dimension to the familiar story.
Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie in the new series. She’ll be joined by series regulars Samantha Sloyan (The Pitt) as Margaret White, Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) as Sue Snell, Amber Midthunder (Prey) as Miss Desjardin, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, and Matthew Lillard (Scream, Man of Tomorrow) as Principal Grayle. Series guest stars will include Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley, and Heather Graham.
When does Carrie premiere?
Fans won’t have to wait long to see for themselves if Flanagan’s adaptation of Carrie is just as brilliant as King says. The eight-episode miniseries will be available to stream on Oct. 7, with all episodes being released at once, so you can devour the horror goodness. Flanagan has become something of a master of horror on the screen thanks to shows like The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass.
He’s even handled multiple King adaptations in the past, such as 2017’s Gerald’s Game, 2019’s Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck. After Carrie, Flanagan and King will team up for another collaboration, this time of the prolific horror author’s 1980 story The Mist.
