Dolly Parton’s sister has hit out at the alleged silence from Nashville following the death of the Country music icon at the age of 80 last month

Dolly Parton’s sister has slammed those in Nashville for failing to reach out following the death of the Country music icon. Dolly died last month aged 80.
And while the world shared messages of condolence, the Queen of Country’s sister Stella has claimed no one from the music community in Tennessee has been in touch with her. Instead, she insists they have stayed silent and watched on from afar.
Stella, 77, hit out at some in the industry while talking to Gayle King on CBS Mornings interview. In it, Stella claimed: “I haven’t heard from anybody in Nashville since my sister passed away.
“I haven’t had one condolence from anyone – anybody that I know, entertainers that I know. Nobody. Not one.”
And she hinted it could be down to politics. Stella continued: “‘I’m assuming it might be because of my political, you know, activism on social media. I don’t know.”
Stella admitted her sister would always stay quiet on such opinions, insisting she wouldn’t want to offend anyone. “She never would have done that,” Stella went on.
“She was smarter than me. You know, I tell everything. And I like everybody knowing what I think about it. Not her!’
She also admitted Dolly “‘could not bear negative things and she would not have wanted her fans worried about it”. She said her sister “didn’t want a lot of family worried about it”.
She explained that “some of us knew, the ones of us that were closer” but “not every relative”. She went on: “She’d be really happy and delighted that people have shown her so much love because she knew that that would make us feel better as her family.”
Dolly was buried in a low-key family ceremony on Friday August 28, three days after she died. She was interred beside husband Carl Thomas Dean.
Despite Stella’s claims, the world has shown on outpouring of emotion since the star’s death. Music lovers and celebrity fans took to social media to share an abundance of love following her passing.
And fans have also helped Dolly achieve her highest position in the UK music charts. Dolly landed three top 10 songs in the UK charts weeks after dying – including her highest-charting single ever. Her hit 9 To 5 became Dolly’s best-performing UK track reaching No5.
Jolene also reached an all-time high at No6 while Islands in the Stream, the singer’s 1983 duet with Kenny Rogers, was No9. Jolene originally peaked at No7 in 1976 as did Islands in the Stream in 1984.
And her hit, 9-5, written for the comedy film of the same name, had also peaked at No12 last week. This eclipsed the tune’s previous best position of No47.
