Michelle Keegan gives rare update on baby Palma after pulling out of TV role

Former Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan has given a rare update on motherhood and revealed that her 18-month-old daughter Palma has taken her first steps

Michelle Keegan has revealed that her daughter Palma has started walking. The actress, 39, who has been married to Mark Wright since 2015, welcomed her first baby in March last year and has now shared an update on her progress.

During an appearance on Friday’s This Morning alongside her The Blame co-star Douglas Booth, host Alison Hammond asked how old Palma was now, to which Michelle confirmed “a year and a half.”

Alison then asked if Palma had walking yet and Michelle replied: “Oh, she’s running. She’s running now. Yeah!” The actress also told Alison, alongside Dermot O’Leary, that she was ” constantly shattered” on set because she had her baby at home as well.

In her new drama, Michelle stars as DI Emma Crane who, alongside DI Tom Radley (Booth) investigate the death of a young figure skater in a small town.

She added: “There was a few days on set where I struggled with that. I think it’s because it was all police terminology. Doug was brilliant. He always had my black lesson. But, um, I think obviously because I had a baby as well at home, so I was constantly shattered.”

It comes just days after Michelle decided to pull out of another drama that she was meant to be starring in so she could spend more time with her family. Until recently, Michelle was gearing to take on the part of a working class barrister in a new series that has been penned by Sherlock creator Steve Thompson, with cameras set to roll from November.

But the TV star then chose to walk away from the project in what is being called a “huge blow” for the production. A source said: “Michelle was really keen to take on the meaty role, but the heavy filming schedule would take her away from daughter Palma for too long.

According to reports, former Doctor Who actress Jodie Whittaker has been drafted into the role instead but fans of Michelle will soon be able to see her in in Netflix drama The Woods, which is based on the Harlan Coben thriller of the same name.

Speaking to The Sun, the source added: “The hours were quite intense and the project was starting straight after her Netflix drama The Woods and she just couldn’t commit. She is dedicated to her acting career, but like all working mums has to prioritise being there for her family, juggling work, parenting and being present for Palma.”

Michelle shot to fame when in 2008 when she was cast as Tina McIntyre on Coronation Street, and stayed with the soap for seven years before making a permanent exit when the much-loved Rovers barmaid was killed off as part of a whodunnit plot.

Since then, she has Michelle has become one of the most famous actresses in Britain, starring in top-rated programmes like Brassic and Ten Pound Poms.
