Apple has unveiled its new-generation AirPods 5, with the new earbuds set to go on sale next week. The new AirPods are described as bringing upgrades, including improved sound, stronger noise cancellation and smarter hands-free features.
The arrival of the newer model means shoppers can now pick up the previous-generation Apple AirPods 4 for less, with Amazon and EE both cutting their prices. The Apple AirPods 4 Wireless are now available from Amazon for £99, down from £119, a £20 saving on the popular product.
Amazon is not the only retailer cutting prices. EE has reduced the Apple AirPods 4 to £109, a £10 saving on their previous £119 price.
The AirPods 4 were redesigned with a contoured shape, shorter stem and quick-press controls, with Apple describing them as being designed for all-day comfort and greater stability. They also feature Apple’s H2 chip and Personalised Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, which is designed to create a more immersive listening experience
For calls, Voice Isolation is designed to reduce background noise and make your voice clearer when speaking in louder surroundings. The earbuds also work with Siri, while Siri Interactions allow users to respond by nodding or shaking their head.

Battery life is rated at up to five hours of listening on a single charge, rising to up to 30 hours when used with the charging case. The redesigned case uses USB-C charging and is more than 10 per cent smaller by volume than the previous generation.
The AirPods 4 and charging case are also rated IP54 for dust, sweat and water resistance, making them suitable for everyday use and workouts.
There are also cheaper alternatives available for shoppers who are not specifically looking for AirPods. Argos has reduced the JLab Go Pop ANC True Wireless Earbuds to £24.99 from £29.99, with four colours available and active noise cancellation.
Meanwhile, Debenhams has reduced the Samsung Galaxy Buds FE Active Noise Cancelling Graphite Earbuds from £99.99 to £89.99. The true wireless earbuds are designed to offer immersive sound, active noise cancellation and comfortable all-day wear.

Amazon shoppers appear pleased with the AirPods 4, with several reviewers praising their sound quality, battery life and ease of use. One reviewer said: “Apple does it again, great price does what it’s supposed to do and looks great.”
Another wrote: “Great AirPods, definitely recommend them for the gym and exercise. They are immensely quick charging got the ones without noise cancelling, very lightweight. I kinda forgot they were in my pocket. Great headphones, thanks, plus fully authentic as from Apple.”
A third shopper said: “Excellent product. Answer calls and have message chat with voice only. Music sounds good too. Battery life very good and was worth the money.”
However, one reviewer was less impressed with AirPods ‘ redesigned shape, saying: “Sound quality is great, but they have changed the shape and they keep falling out of my ear. My others I would forget I had them in, these ones I’m consulting, pushing them back in.”
Another shopper was more positive, writing: “Great product, connects straight away to all of my Apple devices. Sounds so much better than my old ones. The battery lasts way longer, too. I take them for my walks, runs, work, they do everything.”
