Jason Statham‘s latest action thriller, Mutiny, might have recently reached a major box office milestone, but even with its impressive domestic haul, it never came close to matching the success of The Stath’s explosive 2019 hit that served as a spinoff to a popular franchise. Now, seven years later, the film has just scored a new streaming home to remind viewers of how fun it really is.

Released on Aug. 2, 2019, Statham returned to the Fast & Furious franchise as Deckard Shaw in the spinoff officially titled Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Starring opposite Dwayne Johnson reprising his role of Luke Hobbs, the film sees the duo become reluctant allies teaming with Vanessa Kirby to take down a genetically enhanced terrorist named Brixton Lore, played by Idris Elba.
Coming two years after the eighth film in the main franchise, The Fate of the Furious, Hobbs & Shaw proved to be a massive hit at the box office, earning $760 million against a budget of $200 million. Unlike the previous movies, though, Statham and Johnson’s flick never takes itself too seriously, and acts as more of a buddy-action comedy in the same vein as Lethal Weapon or Bad Boys. Yes, there’s tons of globe-trotting action, but the constant insults and upstaging between the pair make for an action thriller that’s very different in tone compared to its predecessors.
The formula proved to be a big hit with audiences, as even though Hobbs & Shaw scored just a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, viewers gave it a stellar 88% rating. Called everything from “very entertaining” to “action-packed and full of great characters,” the plan was to eventually have a sequel to Hobbs & Shaw, but it’s since gotten stuck in development hell and as of now, its official status remains up in the air.
‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Returns to Streaming
Despite plans for a sequel remaining in limbo for now, Hobbs & Shaw is still a fun watch on its own. Sadly, the film is currently unavailable to stream on any major platform in the United States, but all that will change later this month.
Per Hulu, Hobbs & Shaw will be added to their streaming library in the United States on Sept. 14, meaning you can either relive all the excitement of the Fast & Furious spinoff, or see it for the very first time. Joining it on Hulu this month are other great hits such as Jerry Maguire, The School of Rock, and the premiere of American Horror Story Season 13 on Sept. 24.
Next up for Statham now that Mutiny has pretty much come and gone is a sequel to another action thriller smash, The Beekeeper. Directed by Timo Tjahjanto with David Ayer serving as a producer, the film will see him reprise his role of Adam Clay, with Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, Jemma Redgrave, and Jeremy Irons all returning as well. Newcomers to the franchise include Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff and Adam Copeland.
Look for The Beekeeper 2 to hit theaters on Jan. 15, 2027, and be sure to check out Hobbs & Shaw when it lands on its new streaming home of Hulu starting Sept. 14.
