Meghan Markle Thinks She’s ‘Best Person’ For Princess Diana Film

Meghan Markle reportedly wants to play a central role in Prince Harry’s rumored documentary about his late mother, Princess Diana. While the project was initially presented as a deeply personal undertaking for Harry, a royal commentator now claims the Duchess of Sussex is helping drive the production and wants to narrate it herself. The reported film is expected to focus on Diana ahead of the 30th anniversary of her death in 2027. However, no production company, network, streaming platform or release date has been officially announced.

According to RadarOnline, former publicist Rob Shuter discussed Meghan’s alleged involvement during an appearance on Maureen Callahan’s “The Nerve” podcast.

“So, when the Daily Mail broke the story that Harry was working on a movie, a TV movie about his mother, I hit the phones right away,” Shuter explained. “And immediately people said, ‘It’s Meghan.’ And it’s not Harry’s movie; it’s Harry and Meghan’s movie. It is the two of them.”

The claims followed a report from Daily Mail royal commentator Richard Kay, who said Harry had begun contacting people who knew his mother.

Kay reportedly suggested that one of Harry’s reasons for returning to the United Kingdom was to work on a television film about Diana. AOL also reported that Harry had contacted some of his mother’s former friends in hopes of securing their participation.

Neither Harry nor Meghan has publicly announced the project or confirmed what roles they would hold if it moves forward.

The Duchess Reportedly Believes She Understands Television

Shuter claimed Meghan sees herself as qualified to help shape the documentary because of her previous work in front of and behind the camera. “She fancies herself as a TV producer. She has been on television shows. Some have been hits. And so, she really does feel quite, quite, quite important within the world of television,” he claimed.

Meghan’s best-known acting role was Rachel Zane on the USA Network legal drama “Suits.” She appeared on the series from 2011 until 2018, leaving shortly before marrying Harry. “She thinks that she knows what makes a great documentary, what makes a great show,” Shuter continued.

He then criticized Meghan’s Netflix work, quipping, “We know that’s not the case from her own stuff on Netflix.” Her lifestyle series, “With Love, Meghan,” premiered on Netflix in March 2025. Although reports indicated it would not return for a third season, the program later received a 2026 Daytime Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Lifestyle Program category, according to PEOPLE.

Meghan Markle Allegedly Wants To Narrate The Film

Shuter went on to claim that Meghan doesn’t just want to help produce the rumored documentary. She also reportedly wants to become the voice guiding viewers through Diana’s story. “So, I know she wants to do voiceovers. I know she wants to do narration. This is the project, and her husband and herself are hiring Meghan,” he said.

The commentator suggested that the couple would choose Meghan over an established British performer. “They’re not going to hire Judi Dench. They’re not going to hire a great grand dame of the British acting world to do this. They’re not going to hire Hugh Grant or some Brit with some status. They’re going to hire Meghan.”

Shuter’s remarks remain unconfirmed, and no official announcement has identified Meghan as the documentary’s narrator. The Duchess does, however, have previous experience narrating a documentary. She provided the voice-over for Disney’s 2020 nature film “Elephant,” which followed an elephant family on a journey across Africa.

Shuter claimed Meghan believes she is uniquely positioned to narrate the film because she relates to the struggles Diana experienced in the public eye. “Meghan’s going to narrate the story, and she feels as if she’s the best person to tell it because, like Diana, she’s suffered. That’s where they’re going.”

Meghan has previously spoken about struggling with relentless media scrutiny and her mental health while living in Britain. She and Harry have also repeatedly drawn connections between their experiences and the press’s treatment of Diana. However, neither Meghan nor Harry has said publicly that those similarities are the reason she wants to narrate a film about Diana.

The rumored project would not be the first documentary Harry has made about his mother. He and Prince William participated in the 2017 film “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy,” which marked 20 years since her death and featured memories from both brothers.
