What is one moment in the original film that is constantly quoted back to you?
Sandra: “Rosemary by your garden gate, salt over your left shoulder, lavender for luck.” Yeah. That’s the one.
Nicole: “My blood, your blood, our blood.” That sort of—that is the film.
Sandra: I have rosemary by all my garden gates. I have lavender. I have—I mean, because of this film, I have that. It’s always in my head.
Nicole: I don’t have that, I should have that! I have the lavender but not the rosemary.
Sandra: It’s so great, you want it right outside the kitchen, as well!
It sounds like you are creating the kitchen from Practical Magic.
Nicole: Oh, you should see her home! It’s divine!
Sandra: Well, there’s the solarium in my home. The little garden room.
Nicole: Oh, that’s magical.
Sandra: That’s the baby version.
Nicole: We’ve had some great times there too.
Sandra: Lots of Champagne too.
Gilly and Sally teach each other so much; they’re opposites in so many ways. But what they do so well—something that sisters often do—is that they bring something out in the other. I’m curious: In your own friendship, is there something that you’ve taken from the other?
Sandra: A thousand, thousand percent. Nic has a way—who she is as a human being, and I feel you came out of the womb this way—that her spirit is so clear and so unapologetic in her knowing, in her drive, in her objective. The way she loves, the way she executes her work, the way she tackles life, the way she says yes to life. I think that’s what it is. The way that she says yes to life is like no other human being I’ve ever met. I mean, there’s not a second of the day that is wasted in Nicole’s world in terms of savoring the nectar of absolutely everything.
Nicole: Oh, I love that, savoring the nectar!
Sandra: No, it’s true, she does. She just savors every single drop. Nothing is wasted. Nothing, nothing. It’s a good eye-opener for very cautious people.
Nicole: Sandy is just all about loving and sharing. She’s like, “What do you want to know? I can tell you. I can help you. I’ve been there. I’ve experienced it. I’m an open book. Come to me.”
Sandra: Well, and I’m an open book to you.
