Award-winning Liverpool bar confirms ‘different direction’ as it clears up closure rumours

The venue confirmed its ownership was changing but that it will remain open

A Liverpool bar has cleared up rumours that it is closing. Liberté Sky Garden officially opened in July 2018 on the third floor of the Bentley Building on Brunswick Street.

Since then, it has established itself as a go-to for many for its summer-time events and rooftop cocktails. However, after an Instagram post circulated online suggesting the venue is shutting, the ECHO approached Liberté for confirmation.

In response, the spokesperson said that it was not closing, but rather heading in a different direction under new ownership. The spokesperson said more details will be available in two weeks time about the move.

The initial post, from a music event, said it had been informed that Liberté was closing and was therefore announcing a new venue for its Halloween event.

The post from Show Me Luv Liverpool confirmed that the Saturday, October 31 event would now be held at Inside Garden and Inside Wav along Clegg Street.

The Liberté spokesperson confirmed it would not be hosting the Halloween show as the new owners wish to step away from these types of events.

The New York-inspired cocktail bar boasts panoramic views of Liverpool’s famous World Heritage site and was opened by DJ Liam Hincks. At the time, he said: “With an extensive list of cocktails and an exciting food concept to be announced we will be the crown in the jewel will be the city’s largest flat level roof terrace.

“I have been in ongoing talks with some fantastic summer events booked in with concepts taken from cities such as Dubai and London. It has been our aim for several years, since acquiring this building, to put the roof terrace into use.

“Now we have the right time and right concept we feel this is the right time. We wanted to create a space that really comes into its own and provides truly unique surroundings for those looking for something a bit different from a day or night out.”

The venue was previously named among the best rooftop bars in the UK.
