After a brief teaser of the Friday The 13th prequel, the full Crystal Lake trailer has finally landed. And it’s not exactly what we expected.
A Friday The 13th TV show has been planned since the early 2000s and now we’re finally getting really close to actually seeing one on our screens.
A24’s Crystal Lake is set to hit Sky in the UK in October and will follow Linda Cardellini’s Pamela Voorhees, the mother of Jason and a big part of the first film, rather than the killer usually known for the long-running franchise’s high death count.

Brad Caleb Kane, who has also provided the singing voice of the animated Aladdin for Disney since the very first film, is the showrunner and has directed some episodes. William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom are starring alongside Cardellini with Callum Vinson playing the young Jason.
Here’s a proper synopsis: A prequel to the Friday the 13th franchise, Crystal Lake follows single mother Pam Voorhees (Linda Cardellini) who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?
The original Friday The 13th, released in 1980 and directed by Sean S. Cunningham, portrayed Pamela Voorhees as a very angry mother whose son went missing and was presumed dead, but she never got the closure she needed. Here, Cardellini’s Pam is still looking for her son and slowly starting to lose her grip with reality as seen as she wakes up on the sofa with a very large knife next to her.
Crystal Lake was always going to lean into the slasher roots of its film franchise, but this writer certainly wasn’t expecting there to be some mysterious government laboratory or other secret room and hints that Pam and Jason had something to hide.
“What would the good people of Crystal Lake really say if they knew what you and Jason really were?” a character asks Pam. It seems that there’s more to this mystery than just Pam’s grief and villainous tendencies.
We’ll have to wait until October to find out what’s going on in Crystal Lake. In the US, all episodes drop on Peacock on the 15th October and while Sky’s press release doesn’t specify a date in October, we’d guess we will get the episodes soon after that.
