There were some stylish catwalk debuts as Prue Leith and Alison Hammond lit up London Fashion Week as the pair turned heads on the famous front row.
Dame Prue sported an unmissable pink wig as she led a host of stars to make their bow strutting their stuff at the glam event at the art’otel in Hoxton, east London. The UK’s fashion showcase is held in the capital twice a year, with designers presenting their collections in February and September.
The former Great British Bake Off host, 86, grabbed the attention in a long-sleeved white dress with a multi-coloured floral embellishment at the Vin+Omi Anarchy fashion show and she wasn’t the only big name to wow the audience.
Also in the show was fellow Bake Off star Alison Hammond, who looks sensational in a shimmering, off the shoulder dress, with her hair styled into an afro. She showed off her 13 stone weight loss and looked like a natural as she performed the trademark stare down the lens.
Queen drummer Roger Taylor was another famous face in the show and sported a black and beige patterned jacket with a black shirt and trousers and red trainers. Loose Women star Jane Moore wore a sleeveless blue sequin dress and carried a dog wearing a matching tie.
The presenter’s look was completed with an eye-catching twig-style headpiece with blue netting. Vin+Omi are eco-conscious designers known for creating sustainable fashion.
They used the collection to explore waste, environmental destruction and what they see as a growing reluctance to speak out about political and social problems.
“People daren’t speak out, and I think we’re encouraging people to be more vocal about whatever it is, you know, whatever side they’re on, we’re not taking sides as such,” Vin told the Press Association of the collection.
“We’re just saying, if people don’t speak out, then we can’t sort this situation out, because the ones with the larger political voices will win.”
Dame Prue’s turn on the runway comes after she announced in January she had left her judging role on The Great British Bake Off after nine series.
She has been replaced by Nigella Lawson, who will make her debut on the new series on September 22. Speaking on This Morning in August, Dame Prue said she believes Lawson is the right person for the job.
She said: “I didn’t have to give her any tips but I did tell her to just enjoy it because she’s so good. She was quite nervous. She’s so well qualified and knows exactly what she’s doing and the audience love her.”
With the front row the place to see and be seen, British favourites like Vivienne Westwood, Burberry and McQueen constantly reinvent how we see style.
The event this year runs until next Monday.
