Vigil fans will see Amy and Kirsten face the “hardest choice of their careers” in tonight’s season three finale.
BBC’s “brilliant” Vigil season three may be almost over but its replacement has already been announced.
Vigil returned after a three-year hiatus for its third season on BBC One where DI Kirsten Longacre (played by Rose Leslie) was sent to Svalbard to investigate the murder of a British soldier on an undercover mission.
The sixth and final episode is set to air this evening, Monday, September 14, at 9pm where “Amy finds herself on the wrong side of the law and Kirsten puts her own life on the line to keep her safe”.
But ahead of viewers seeing the couple undergo “immense political pressure and personal jeopardy”, the BBC has confirmed what will be taking Vigil’s timeslot.
The Split fans will be thrilled as its spin-off The Split Up is set to take over from Vigil season three on Sunday and Monday nights over the next few weeks.
Brought to life by The Split’s award-winning creator Abi Morgan, The Split Up “brings a new family, a new city and a new set of relationships to the charged world of high-net-worth divorce law”.
Kicking off on Sunday, September 20, at 9pm, on BBC One, The Split Up will leave London behind and set up in Manchester where “rising star” Aria Kishan (played by Ritu Arya) is preparing to take over her father’s powerhouse firm.
But more pressure is on the horizon with her wedding to long-term partner Neal (Danny Ashok) approaching as her former secret flame Luke (Dimitri Leonidas) unexpectedly takes a job at Kishan Law.
The official synopsis then goes on to question: “Alongside her siblings Maya (Aysha Kala) and Kav (Arian Nik), whose own relationships and loyalties are far from straightforward, Aria must ask herself: who should you live your life for?”
Doctors and The Umbrella Academy star Ritu Arya leads the cast as Aria with her father Dhruv brought to life by Unforgotten legend Sanjeev Bhaskar.
Fans will also spot the firm’s series of “high-profile clients” with a number of standout guest stars like Lenny Henry, Jameela Jamil and Jane Horrocks.
The BBC further teases: “Combining the heart of The Split with new storylines, setting and characters with a British South Asian family at the helm, The Split Up promises a fresh take on the splits that divide family and those we love.”
While The Split Up will continue to air every Sunday and Monday night in Vigil season three’s place, the entire boxset will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer on September 20.
