The Oasis documentary has raked in £2.66 million at the UK and Ireland box office during its opening weekend in cinemas.
Steven Knight’s concert film, Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger, chronicles Liam and Noel Gallagher’s triumphant reunion world tour, Oasis Live ’25. Featuring behind-the-scenes access to rehearsals as well as backstage and onstage footage, the documentary includes the brothers’ first joint interviews in over 20 years, following their acrimonious split in 2009.
The film also delves into the profound cultural significance of the reunion and explores why the iconic rock band’s music continues to strike a chord with devoted long-term supporters and a new generation of fans alike. Released on Wednesday, the documentary has been warmly received by critics, earning three stars from The Financial Times and four stars from The Guardian, The Independent and The Telegraph.
Rolling Stone lauded the film for getting “to the heart of a band that means so much to so many”. Knight, widely recognised as the creator of the acclaimed drama Peaky Blinders, previously told the Press Association that cameras were placed in the rehearsal room to capture proceedings as organically as possible, with a deliberate effort to avoid making “the film about the making of a concert tour”.
He added: “I sort of insisted that this was how we should approach it: that this was going to be a film about reconciliation and forgiveness.”
The band have notched up eight UK number one singles and eight UK number one albums, with Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger and Roll With It amongst their most celebrated tracks. Co-directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, the film will be shown at cinemas nationwide until September 24, before becoming available to stream on Disney.
The release arrived shortly before the band revealed new concert dates for supporters next year. Following weeks of speculation, Oasis confirmed a world tour, featuring stadium performances in Manchester, Glasgow, Munich, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Ireland – the full list can be viewed here.
