Graham Norton’s mystery novel gets a starry TV adaptation with Douglas Henshall and Amy Nuttall

The second of Graham Norton’s novels to get a TV adaptation after 2022’s Holding, this switches the location from Ireland to England and sets its stall in the opening flashback as secrets are buried. It’s set around the extended family of Douglas Henshall’s Robert Barrie, who, in the present day has Alzheimer’s and is living with his partner of ten years Carol (Amy Nuttall), while the whereabouts of his first wife is unknown.
After a few violent outbursts, it’s clear that Robert’s dementia is worsening and he needs residential care, leading his grown-up children, Sally and Kaden (Jenny Walser and Lewis Cope), to eye up their inheritance – the now valuable family home where the secrets are buried in the basement.
The six-part series is built around its core characters, blending domestic drama and light humour with an overarching mystery about the fate of Robert’s first wife. The rest of the cast boasts Denise Welch as Carol’s mum, plus Kevin Whately and James Baxter.
