Update: Lionsgate has released a new trailer for Ghosts: The Possession Of Button House and it’s getting us even more excited for the upcoming film.
This trailer offers a bit more info on the plot as Simon Farnaby’s Julian Fawcett manages to escape the mansion by possessing the body of a teenage boy. Unfortunately, this traps the boy into the mansion in ghost form and it looks like he needs to get back in his body very quickly or he’ll be stuck there forever as a real ghost.

23.6.2026: Supernatural sitcom spin-off Ghosts: The Possession Of Button House has been in the works for some time now, and makes its way into UK cinemas this October courtesy of Lionsgate.
To remind us of this, a debut trailer has emerged, and you know what? The cinematography is absolutely lovely. Just look at that opening low angle on the bike. Awesome.
Beneath the cinematic lighting, the much-loved cast is back along with a few new faces: expect to see Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe on a big screen near you soon.
Directed by Simon Hynd, it promises to be a thoroughly charming extension of a highly successful British TV comedy. Look out for it at your local cinema from the 23rd October 2026. Just in time for Halloween! Spooktacular.

27th February 2026: It’s a happy day for fans of Ghosts, the hit British sitcom. Ghosts originally ran for five seasons from 2019 onwards, with a Christmas special also airing in 2023. Fans have been eagerly waiting for more ever since.
Now, the sitcom is returning in feature film format. The film, which begins shooting at West Horsley Mansion and surrounding area in Surrey next month, will be titled Ghosts: The Possession Of Button House.
Mathew Baynton took to Instagram with the news, saying the team was “so excited to be doing this and very grateful to everyone who is making it happen.”
BBC Film, BBC Studios and Lionsgate have given the green light for Monumental Television to get the film going. Simon Hynd will direct.
Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, the creators, writers and stars of the show, have written the script and are expected to reprise their roles. Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe will also join them in the supernatural comedy.
The original series followed a group of ghosts haunting a country house while forced to share it with the current, living occupants. The US and Australia, along with several other countries, have also produced their own versions of the concept.
“We thought we had said goodbye to Button House at the end of the final series,” the creators wrote in a statement “We never planned to come back. But when we had the idea for this story, we all got so excited that we couldn’t resist returning to our haunted home for one more adventure. We can’t wait to be together and to welcome some brilliant new faces, to tell this soul-stirring tale of life and death.”
Eva Yates, Director of BBC Film, added, “We are overjoyed to be bringing our beloved Ghosts back once again, this time for a hilarious and cinematic adventure, for the enjoyment of audiences on big and small screen alike,”
