The story of the shocking murder of British woman Caroline Crouch, in Athens in 2022

In May 2021, beautiful young couple Caroline Crouch and her husband Babis Anagnostopoulos were the victims of a horrifying attack in their home in a suburb of Athens. Caroline was killed, a few months shy of her 20th birthday, while Babis was found bound and gagged in the same room, with their infant daughter. The family dog had also been killed. News of the shocking crime quickly went global, in particular with the British press because Caroline was British – born in Liverpool she moved to Greece as a youngster. As well as the gut- wenching tragedy of Caroline’s young life cut short and her 11-month-old baby deprived of a mother, there was also an outpouring of sympathy for Babis.
But steadily, over the days that followed, something did not ring true about the crime and in particular with Babis’s story. While armchair internet sleuths pored over the details and shared their own theories, police were collecting the evidence and, as you can probably tell from the title, it was a digital activity tracker that eventually led them to the killer’s door.
Mail reporter Nick Fagge covered the case and is one of the key contributors to this two-parter which follows the timeline from desperate police call to the killer’s conviction. It does a very good job of setting the scene, hearing from police, lawyers, friends of the family, and neighbours as well as from Caroline’s devastated father. (Two episodes)
