A cryptic message has been shared on the bar’s Instagram page
A popular Liverpool city centre bar has informed guests of several upcoming closures. Salt Dog Slim’s, a bar located on Seel Street, issued a cryptic message warning customers that this will be “the last chance to see Salt Dogs as you know it”.
Since opening in 2012, the bar has become a cult favourite thanks to its American-style cocktail and dive bar aesthetic, world beers, hot dogs and party atmosphere. The company opened a sister site named Slim’s on Bold Street in 2019 – now closed – followed by a new Salt Dog Slim’s bar in Manchester’s King street in 2021.
In an update shared on Instagram yesterday, (September 14), Liverpool’s Salt Dog Slim’s informed guests of several upcoming closures. A statement read: “We’re closing… For a few days.
“Soz we’re more on and off than your ex with these opening times. If you miss us come see us this weekend. (The 18th & 19th).”
Closed periods throughout September include Monday 14 to Thursday 17 and Sunday 20 until Wednesday 23.
The bar also teased a cryptic message stating its return would mean the end of what customers know about the venue.
The statement continued: “We’re back on the 24th and things are about to be very different… It’s the last chance to see Salt Dogs as you know it.”
Details surrounding the message and its nature are yet to be confirmed. The ECHO has contacted a spokesperson for a comment.
In 2022, Salt Dog Slim’s celebrated its milestone 10th anniversary with a huge party, including free booze, cake, tattoos and the bar’s biggest hot dog eating competition. The bar marked delivering more than 4,000 kegs, 300,000 shots of Jagermeister and nearly half a million cocktails at the time.
In March this year, GSG Hospitality, the operator behind Salt Dog Slim’s, launched a speakeasy sister bar underneath the Manchester site named MDNT.
Pronounced “Midnight”, guests must first secure a booking at MDNT by texting the venue to receive a secret entry code, which unlocks a nondescript door inside Salt Dog Slim’s.
The venue was designed to contrast sharply with its lively upstairs neighbour. Founder of GSG Hospitality, John Ennis, said: “We really wanted to focus on the guest’s journey.
“If you’ve ever been to Salt Dog Slim’s on a weekend it’s packed and people are having a great time, so the contrast of walking through a coded door, along a private walkway and into a completely different environment is immediate.
“That moment of surprise and the mystique around the entrance is a big part of what MDNT is about.”
