According to sources, the Wales family, who have remained at the center of the Royal Family even after Prince Harry and Markle stepped away, hoped to enjoy a relaxing fall away from the chaos. According to PEOPLE, a royal expert spoke with the publication and said Prince Harry and Markle’s sudden arrival in the UK not only shocked the Royal Family but also put an unexpected level of “pressure” on the Wales family to decide how to move forward with their fellow royals.

“William and Catherine can maintain that their focus has to be about them and their family, but there will be pressure on them about how they interact with Harry and Meghan and their family in the future,” Russell Myers said.

Prince Harry and Markle announced their plans to step away from their senior roles in the Royal Family in 2020, leaving the duties squarely on the Queen, the King, and his brother, Prince William.

Despite Prince Harry’s grand return, things will remain the same for the rest of the family, says Myers. “The King and William are completely united on the Sussexes not representing the royal family,” he noted. “It’s without a doubt how in sync they are on this matter.”

The two royals, both sons of the late Princess Diana, have reportedly been estranged for an extended period, and Myers said Prince Harry’s return has done little to resolve their lingering issues.

“William’s view is clear — any relationship his father has with Harry or the Sussexes as a family is entirely up to him,” Myers said. “But looking toward the future, he will have no relationship with them, in a working or private capacity whatsoever.”

Although Prince William’s reported feelings sound extreme, a source close to him and his wife said the estrangement between the two families has been “very hard on them.”

“At the moment, it has gone from being a hot war to a very, very cold war. But in a cold war situation you still have to turn up to the Olympics,” royal historian Amanda Foreman said, per The Blast.

“The decision for the children to move schools was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” a representative from their team said. “The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family.”
