Big Brother contestant Charlotte Nott’s limb difference has become a topic of conversation following fellow housemate Rochelle’s controversial comment
Big Brother star Charlotte has revealed how much she spends on her prosthetic legs.
The 18-year-old student from Oxford joined the experiment this week, alongside a dozen other housemates from all walks of life. They will live in the famous house over the next eight weeks as they try to outlast each other.
Only one contestant will walk away with the crown and life-changing cash at the end of the series, and Charlotte has a very sensible plan in case she bags the prize. Before joining the show, she explained that savings will be a priority as her prosthetic legs cost thousands of pounds each.
When asked how she would spend the winnings, Charlotte said: “I probably would put a lot of it into savings. My prosthetic legs are about £25,000 per leg, so probably put half in savings and then the other half. And just go on a nice holiday, just kind of spend it.”
As fans will know, the teenager lost her hands and feet to meningitis when she was just three years old. According to the NHS, meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. It is a serious condition that can be fatal.
The new housemate has also spoken about what viewers can expect to see during her time in the house, explaining that everyday tasks she takes for granted can surprise other people.
She told ITV : “Obviously, as a quadruple amputee, people are surprised at anything I do, even normal things like cooking, doing my makeup, getting dressed, stuff like that.
“And obviously they’re going to be watching me 24 hours a day so they’re going to see me do all those things. They’re probably going to be surprised at the most normal things for me, those are going to be the most shocking for everybody watching.”
Charlotte’s limb difference has since become a talking point in the house after fellow contestant Rochelle made an awkward remark in a preview of Wednesday night’s (September 16) episode.
Speaking to Charlotte, Rochelle said: “Can I tell you something because I feel really ashamed? I have got a bit of a fear [of] just like no arms. When I saw you, I was like ‘Oh my God’ and I feel so ashamed because now I don’t even look at it,” reports OK!.
The comment prompted reactions from viewers, with one X user posting: “Oh no Rochelle, why did you say that to her. Wow.” Meanwhile, others think it was simply a case of miscommunication.
Someone shared: “I believe Rochelle was trying to communicate that she had a bias that she was ashamed of having when meeting Charlotte, and in meeting her has realized how wrong her bias was. Could be praised as a learning/ life experience if communicated better. #BBUK.”
Big Brother continues on ITV2 and ITVX tonight at 9pm
