H-1B Travellers Alert: Carry All Documents

H-1B Travellers Alert: Carry All Documents

It is common for travellers on B1/B2 visas to carry their immigration documents while travelling within the US, but H-1B holders may not always maintain the same level of preparedness for domestic trips. However, with such checks reportedly taking place, that approach may need to change.

Travellers in the US, particularly those on visas such as H-1B, are being advised to remain cautious and carry all relevant immigration and identification documents even when travelling domestically.

A recent traveller shared an experience of being stopped by immigration personnel and police officers while boarding a domestic flight at around 2:30 AM.

According to the account, the traveller was asked to provide personal details and documents relating to their immigration status.

Officers reportedly checked the traveller’s visa and verified documents connected to their stay in the US before allowing the journey to continue.

While such checks may not happen during every domestic trip, the incident serves as a reminder for foreign nationals to keep their documentation readily accessible.

A valid passport, visa-related documents and other proof of lawful status may be useful if questions arise during travel.

Travellers are therefore advised to check the documents relevant to their individual status before leaving, keep copies securely stored and follow official US travel and immigration guidance.

Being prepared can help avoid unnecessary complications if additional verification takes place during a domestic journey.
