Charlotte Dawson shares truth behind explosive NTAs row with fiancé Matt Sarsfield

Charlotte Dawson has opened up about her ‘tipsy tiff’ with partner Matt Sarsfield at the National Television Awards, as she shares how his sexting scandal made her feel

Charlotte Dawson has shared the real reason she and her partner, Matt Sarsfield, had a row at the NTAs. The two were seen arguing on the red carpet in videos that worried fans, as Matt appeared to walk away from a pleading Charlotte.

The couple have frequently fought in their relationship; they have been together for a decade and now live in Lancashire with their children. Speaking about their latest argument, Charlotte shared what really happened, revealing it started after a few drinks.

33-year-old Charlotte explained that she ran into some friends after the awards and “had a couple of drinks” with them. She decided she wanted to stay out, but Matt, 35, wanted to go home.

She said to the Sun: “He said, ‘No, I want to go back, we’ve got to get the train tomorrow, Charlotte, and we’ve got to be with the kids tomorrow, we’ve got to be mum and dad tomorrow, come on’.”

Insisting that the fight “wasn’t as bad” as it looked, Charlotte added that she was “obviously a bit tipsy” and was “dead giddy” to be with her friends and at the National Television Awards.

Addressing fan reaction, she said that “not everything’s rosy” but that made them “like any other couple” rather than unusual and that they sometimes went “a full week” without arguing.

Charlotte and Matt first met in 2016 and have been together ever since. They have been engaged since 2020 and have three children together – Noah, five, Jude, three, and Gigi, one.

Whilst pregnant with Gigi, Charlotte discovered that Matt had been sexting with another woman. The star told the Sun that she was left “blindsided and humiliated” when she found out.

Matt moved out of their home afterwards, but with the help of couples therapy, they were able to move on. Though Charlotte feels she “learned a lot” from couples therapy and that it helped them get back on track, they wouldn’t go now. Charlotte felt she and Matt didn’t really need it and are “really, really happy”, despite the bickering.

She added that they are still planning to marry, despite having been engaged for six years. The only problem was that they disagreed about how to do it. While Matt was to elope to Vegas, Charlotte wanted a big “Katie Price wedding”.

Charlotte said she wanted the “full shebang” and “full fairytale”, but in lieu of planning, she has been “busy making babies”. Now, she wants her daughter to be the flower girl.

Charlotte wants her children to be old enough to remember the wedding, saying that would probably take another two years. This is another point of contention, as Matt wants to get married in 2027.
