Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story has arrived and it welcomes stars from the worlds of American Horror Story, Coronation Street and the return of a Netflix Monster icon.
Season four of Ryan Murphy’s Monster on Netflix is back and this time, it’s all about Lizzie Borden.
Immortalised thanks to the chilling children’s rhyme, Lizzie Borden was tried and acquitted of the 1892 axe murders of her father and step-mother in Massachusetts.
Monster season four will take a deep dive into Lizzie’s backstory, the crimes she was accused of committing and what happened after.

Lizzie Borden – Ella Beatty

Lizzie was the repressed daughter of a wealthy Fall River estate who was “trapped in a house built on humiliation and psychological cruelty”.
She was then subsequently on trial for a double murder as her dad and step-mother were found dead, having been brutally stabbed to death with a small axe.
Lizzie Borden is portrayed by actress Ella Beatty, daughter of actors Warren Beatty and Annette Bening who made her debut in Murphy’s Feud: Capote vs The Swans.
Andrew Jackson Borden – Charlie Hunnam
Fans of the Monster franchise will instantly recognise the man behind Lizzie’s father Andrew Jackson Borden.
Sons of Anarchy legend Charlie Hunnam surprised audiences with his disturbing performance as Ed Gein in the third series of Monster last year.
He has also had roles in The Gentlemen, Pacific Rim, The Lost City of Z and Crimson Peak.
Abby Borden – Rebecca Hall
Taking on the role of Lizzie’s stepmother, Abby Borden, who was also brutally murdered, is actress Rebecca Hall.
She is best known for films such as The Gift, The Dinner, Godzilla vs Kong, The Listener, Onslaught and The End of It.
Bridget Sullivan – Vicky Krieps
Bridget “Maggie” Sullivan is the Borden family’s “rebellious” in-house maid who has a close bond with Lizzie thanks to their shared trauma.
She is played by actress Vicky Krieps who has had roles in Phantom Thread, Hot Milk, Old and The Wall, to name a few.
Nance O’Neill – Jessica Barden
Netflix fans will best remember actress Jessica Barden for starring as Alyssa in the dark comedy-drama The End of the F*****g World.
Her career initially launched when she played Kayleigh Morton in Coronation Street but has since worked on Pieces of Her, Hanna, The Outcast, Penny Dreadful and Dune Prophecy.
In The Lizzie Borden Story, Barden plays Nance O’Neill, a stage actress who became a close friend of Lizzie’s around a decade after she is acquitted of two murders.
There was plenty of speculation at the time regarding if their dynamic was a romantic relationship which led to Lizzie’s estrangement from her older sister Emma.
Aileen Wuornos – Sarah Paulson
Aileen Wuornos killed and robbed seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990 while working as a sex worker.
She plays a key role in the later scenes of Monster with Murphy depicting her as “inspired by Lizzie’s legacy”.
Aileen is played by actress Sarah Paulson, famed for her roles in major hits like American Horror Story, 12 Years A Slave, Carol, Glass and Run.
John Vinnicum Morse – Joey Pollari
Another Monster season three star is returning to the franchise after Joey Pollari brought Psycho’s Norman Bates actor Anthony Perkins to life.
This time around, Pollari stars as Lizzie’s maternal uncle who was an early suspect in the double murder of Andrew and Abby Borden.
Pollari has also been in American Crime, Love, Simon and the US version of The Inbetweeners.
Emma Lenora Borden – Billie Lourd
Actress Billie Lourd is best recognised for starring in the horror comedy Scream Queens, as well as in American Horror Story and the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
She portrays Lizzie Borden’s older sister Emma Lenora Borden.
