Melania Trump‘s September 15 visit to North Carolina without her husband, who was later expected in the state, has reignited marriage rumors.
The first lady traveled to Ashe County to meet with Mountain View Elementary School students while Donald Trump was scheduled to be present at a Republican campaign rally in Gastonia the very next day.
With separate Itineraries and limited public appearances together, a body language expert has highlighted the first lady’s “tension” and “unease” during her North Carolina trip.
Melania and Trump’s separate North Carolina appearances, despite the first couple being expected in the state within a day of each other, have inevitably fanned the flames of speculation as people wonder what may be going on behind the scenes.
The first lady’s Ashe County trip marked her fourth visit to North Carolina since 2025. She met with elementary school students, teachers, and other members of staff to discuss technology in the classroom, especially artificial intelligence.
President Trump, on the other hand, was scheduled to be at a campaign rally in support of Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley in Gastonia.
According to The Mirror, Whatley announced the appearance on Facebook, saying, “I am thrilled to welcome Donald J. Trump to my home of Gastonia next Wednesday, September 16.”
The separate back-to-back visits raised suspicions of marital strife behind the scenes, particularly as Melania has been noticeably absent from several recent public engagements.
Body Language Expert Notes Melania Trump’s ‘Tension’ And ‘Unease’ During North Carolina Trip
Melania’s recent Ashe County appearance to promote tech in education seemed to tell a different story that one body language expert has picked up on.
Speaking to the Irish Star, body language expert Judi James revealed that while Melania appeared relaxed when engaging with the children, there were other moments that revealed “subtle signals of tension or unease.”
James noted that Melania initially adopted a runway model pose “with her pelvis pushed forward and arms at her sides,” as she approached the lectern to deliver her speech, but then held one arm bent in front of her body.
According to the expert, “When someone keeps their arm bent and in front of their torso, it will usually mean a desire to create a barrier that will make them feel protected and safe, which can in turn suggest inner anxiety.”
She explained that Melania continuously repeated the “bent arm gesture” and the hand the first lady held up appeared to be “balled into a fist with the knuckles turned white,” which James says indicates tension.
James observed that the 56-year-old’s “Hi everyone” came with “what sounds like a higher, more nervous pitch than usual,” although this part improved as she delivered her speech.
The body language assessment seems to point to Melania not being her usual confident self, but whether that has anything to do with her marriage, which is rumored to be in trouble, was not established.
The President And The First Lady’s Relationship Is At Its Lowest Point, Trump Biographer Claims
Trump Biographer Michael Wolff has made claims about the first relationship that have added fuel to the fire.
Wolff has reportedly claimed that the president and the first lady “barely speak” and that their marriage is at its lowest point since the Stormy Daniels trial, “and that was very low,” he says.
According to The Daily Beast, the biographer claimed to have been told by one of Trump’s top aides that Melania “hates his f-cking guts.”
The White House responded to Wolff’s claims at the time through spokesperson Davis Ingle, who called him “a professional scumbag and serial liar” suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
A Striking Pattern Of Separate Schedules And Absences
The North Carolina situation is the latest in a series of suspect public appearances by the president and first lady that supposedly points to marital problems.
Melania was notably missing from Trump’s recent Ireland trip on September 12, with Trump joking that the first lady didn’t show up because she didn’t feel like making the seven-hour journey.
She also missed the Republican midterm convention as well as Senator Lindsay Graham’s funeral ceremony.
Whether there is trouble in paradise or the speculations are entirely baseless is not yet officially confirmed.
However, the sense of distance between the two that the public, as well as experts and insiders, continue to notice only serves to propagate insinuations about the first marriage until they are definitively addressed.

The White House Executive Assistant has been at the center of heated debate in the last few weeks after reports of her passionate letters to Trump surfaced in the book “Regime Change” by Jonathan Swan and Maggie Haberman.
One of the alleged messages sent to him: “You are all that matters to me. I don’t ever want to let you down.”
Rumors further intensified when Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff poked fun at the president and his aide, saying the president “doesn’t want to do the job. He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”
His remarks were met by a barrage of scathing responses from Trump’s camp, which, in itself, added fuel to the fire over Trump and Harp’s closeness.
Speaking about the situation with Harp, Trump biographer Wolff claimed, “Melania, whose appearances with her husband were carefully negotiated and choreographed, would not show up if Harp was around.”
He added, “Since Harp was always around, Melania never was — appearing with her husband only in the last week of the campaign.”
Melania’s senior advisor has, however, since slammed the speculations, stating during an interview that the “liberal media is ridiculous” and doesn’t “know anything about the first lady’s personal and private life.”
