After months of speculation, the BBC has confirmed Doctor Who‘s future. On Thursday, the British Broadcasting Corporation launched a competitive tender inviting producers to pitch a new vision for Doctor Who in its 16th season (since its return in 2005).
Rumors of an impending competitive tender have circulated since the BBC scrapped plans for a 2026 Doctor Who Christmas Special from Russel T Davies and Bad Wolf Productions. Davies and his company produced Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary specials and the two seasons featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor. Disney co-produced the episodes, and they streamed internationally on Disney+, but that arrangement expired without renewal.
