Paris in the 1930s is the setting for a farcically fun affair

This French comedy has a ring of Chicago to it, but without the musical numbers. When struggling actress Madeleine (Nadia Tereszkiewicz) is accused of murdering a theatre director, her trial makes her a celebrity, with her best friend and lawyer Pauline (Rebecca Marder) spinning her defence in court.
Set in 1930s Paris it channels all the wit and elegance of films of that period and whips along at a pretty pace, using its comedy for a commentary on fame, power and the stories and fictions we tell ourselves and the rest of the world. Best of all, celebrated actress Isabelle Huppert makes quite an entrance as faded silent movie star Odette Chaumette and all-but runs away with the whole film. (102 minutes)
