MUBI has released the official trailer and artwork for a new thriller Minotaur, from director Andrey Zvyagintsev.
Zvyagintsev is already a two-time Academy Award nominee for his films Leviathan (2014) and Loveless (2017). Minotaur is his sixth feature film as director.
The official synopsis reads: “Russia, 2022. When Gleb, a successful company director, finds himself under siege from mounting corporate pressures and an increasingly unstable world, the collapse of his carefully ordered life accelerates toward violence.”
It stars Dmitriy Mazurov as Gleb and Iris Lebedeva as Galina. Also joining the cast are Boris Kudrin, Yuriy Zavalnyouk, Vladimir Friedman and Varvara Shmykova.
The film is a loose adaptation of the French film The Unfaithful Wife (1969) by Claude Chabrol. Chabrol’s film was previously adapted by Adrian Lyne for Unfaithful (2002), starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane.
Zvyagintsev won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for his feature debut The Return (2003). His other films include The Banishment (2007) and Elena (2011).
Zvyagintsev co-writes the film alongside Semen Liashenko. He also continues his collaboration with Mikhail Krichman, who has been the cinematographer for all of Zvyagintsev’s films to date, and production designer Andrey Ponkratov.
Minotaur received its world premiere at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, subsequently winning the Grand Prix award. It has since played across film festivals in Telluride, Toronto, New York and Zurich.
Zvyagintsev’s film is now set to make its UK debut at the BFI London Film Festival. As part of the festival’s 70th anniversary, there will be exclusive screenings at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall on 16th, 17th and 18th October 2026.
The film is one of many releases in this year’s festival. These include the upcoming drama Elsinore starring Andrew Scott, Brad Bird’s animated feature Ray Gunn, and Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut.
Minotaur will be released in UK & Irish cinemas on 27th November 2026.
