Resident Evil 5 Finally Getting The Remaster It Deserves

Stars are aligning with Resident Evil Veronica officially receiving the remake treatment, and a remake of Resident Evil 5 therefore seems far more inevitable than it did before. Indeed, it’d only be natural for Resident Evil 5 to follow the Resident Evil 4 remake, which finally gave fans a modern remake iteration of iconic Resident Evil villain Albert Wesker, but releasing Resident Evil Veronica first allows for sorely needed exposition and backstory on Wesker and Chris Redfield’s rivalry.

Either way, Resident Evil 5 is maybe one of the first Resident Evil games that doesn’t need or deserve a remaster/remake. Resident Evil 5’s co-op gameplay could be a nightmarish feature to have to tackle in a remake, of course, and Capcom remaking Resident Evil 5 as a wholly single-player game would be fairly controversial. That said, with it bound to be remade eventually, fans are already considering how a remaster or remake could take shape, and they’re assessing it through the uncanny valley lens of NVIDIA DLSS 5.

User blackheart909 on YouTube has created a series of videos showcasing what certain horror games look like when they’re imbued with DLSS 5. One of their latest videos examines what these DLSS 5-enhanced visuals look like in Resident Evil 5, with many fans believing it upgrades the nearly 20-year-old game—it’ll probably be 20 years old by the time we see an official remake, ironically—to look like a genuine remaster or remake.

Notably, this YouTube video boosts visuals further with high-end texture mods, meaning that there is more at play here than just the AI-flavored effects of DLSS 5.

DLSS 5 is highly divisive, and depending on how vocal or significant the majority becomes, it’ll be neat to see if the future application of this unique upscaling feature is affected in any way. For instance, the response to how Resident Evil Requiem’s Grace looked in DLSS 5 was understandably quite adverse.

However, according to the YouTube video’s comments section, many fans apparently’d love to see not only a Resident Evil 5 remaster/remake, but one that achieves the specific lookonly a DLSS 5 and 4K texture pack cocktail can right now. Resident Evil 5 must get in line, though, as there are also supposedly remakes in the works for Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0, and it’s difficult to guess the order in which all these possible remakes might be released.
