Netflix's New Harlan Coben 8-part Thriller Sets New Streaming Record

Harlan Coben’s Netflix deal has become one of the most reliable arrangements in streaming. Since Safe premiered in 2018, the novelist has turned out adaptation after adaptation under his 14-book pact with the platform, and virtually all of them, from The Stranger through Stay Close and Fool Me Once, have gone straight to the top of the charts on arrival.

The knock on these shows was never whether people watched them but how quickly people forgot them, since even Fool Me Once, which pulled a staggering 98 million views in its first 24 days back in 2024, played out as a huge but ultimately contained hit that burned bright for a month and moved on. So it is interesting that Coben’s latest, I Will Find You, seems to be taking a slightly different path.

Sam Bierman is five years into a life sentence for murdering his own young son, a crime he doesn’t remember and half believes he committed, when a visitor shows him a recent photograph suggesting the boy may still be alive.

What follows is a prison break and a fugitive search that runs on the parental dread Coben has always been good at bottling, though this one leans harder into momentum than his usual suburban-secrets formula. It’s also a notable departure in another way, since most of Coben’s Netflix output has been produced in the UK, Spain, Poland, or France, while this one plants the flag back in the American market with a bigger swing behind it.

Netflix’s Newest Harlan Coben Hit Is Still Climbing

I Will Find You posted the biggest debut of any Netflix series this year, and it kept adding views week over week, entering the all-time English-language top 10 and then working upward. Its latest casualty is Wednesday season 2, which it has now displaced from fifth place with a running total of 120.4 million views. The remaining climb is considerably steeper, since overtaking Stranger Things season 5 in fourth would require more than 13.5 million additional views, and the three entries above that, Wednesday season 1, Adolescence, and Stranger Things 4, sit in territory that only generational hits reach.

Whether it gets there is honestly doubtful, since Netflix’s all-time list only counts a title’s first 91 days, and the show’s weekly adds will presumably taper. But the fact that the question is even being asked about a Coben adaptation is new. Netflix has already extended its relationship with Coben once, and the pipeline remains busy, with Run Away having landed earlier and further adaptations in various stages. A result like this gives the partnership something it never quite had before, which is proof that a Coben show can compete with Netflix’s homegrown titles rather than just filling the gaps between them.
