In an extremely rare show of solidarity, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News and Fox News are joining together in support of CNN amid their ban from Donald Trump‘s White House. CNN was supposed to have duties at the White House today, but were barred from doing so.
The major networks released a joint statement today
“The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government. No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting,” the five networks said together in a joint statement issued today (September 21).
As a result of Trump‘s decision to ban CNN, the networks will now suspend pool coverage entirely.
Pool coverage is a shared responsibility for the major TV networks
If you are not aware, these five major networks share presidential video coverage on a rotating basis, allowing news organizations at home and abroad to use the live footage for their own audiences. News organizations across the country depend on the pool coverage, and barring CNN impacts this longstanding agreement.
This comes comes just days after Trump banned CNN, MSNow, and Politico from the White House.
