The Man Without Fear is about to become The Man Without A Season 4. Yes, in news that will sadden fans of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, Marvel Television’s critically acclaimed Daredevil: Born Again — a revival and direct continuation of the similarly popular Netflix Daredevil series — is set to end with its forthcoming third season. Per THR‘s reporting, the decision to hang up Matt Murdock’s Billy Club comes just two months after Season 3 finished shooting, and amid showrunner Dario Scardapane’s contract expiring without renewal at Marvel.
Originally greenlit in 2022 with Matt Corman and Chris Ord as head writers, Daredevil: Born Again‘s journey to our screens was an unorthodox one from the get-go. Not only was the show an unexpected revival of a long-since presumed defunct relic of the Netflix era of Marvel TV, but when the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023 closed down production just weeks into filming, Marvel execs decided to creatively overhaul the show, removing Ord and Corman and replacing them with Punisher showrunner Scardapane as well as onboarding Moon Knight duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead as directors and executive producers. The result was a first season that got by on the dynamic between Charlie Cox’s Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson ‘Kingpin’ Fisk early doors before coming into its own and finding its way towards the Benson and Moorhead directed back-half, and then a much stronger and more compelling Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 earlier this year.
With Scardapane exiting during post-production on Born Again Season 3, which has the not-insignificant task of dealing with the fallout of *SPOILER ALERT* Matt Murdock outing himself to the world — and landing himself in jail — in the Season 2 finale *SPOILER ENDS*, it remains to be seen who will steer the Daredevil ship home from here ahead of the final season’s planned 2027 release. However, despite the disappointing news that we’re about to lose our favourite horned hero after just three seasons for a second time, which itself comes off the back of Wonder Man‘s shock cancellation, it’s not all doom and gloom at Marvel HQ. Per THR‘s sources, Marvel Television has apparently just greenlit a secretive new project: a spy-thriller currently known as Zodiac. Could that project’s codename be a reference to the criminal organisation most commonly seen bumping heads with S.H.I.E.L.D in the comics? Or is it something else entirely? Watch this space. Because at least that is something you can watch. Unlike Daredevil: Born Again Season 4. Which isn’t happening.
