Bryan Seaver, Parton’s nephew and longtime head of security, announced her death to the world in a video released on Instagram last month. Seaver was abruptly fired from his position, which he’d held for more than 20 years, after taking over from his father, by termination notice. The letter was served on Wednesday. New security teams immediately took over the Grammy winner’s Nashville home, alongside Parton’s museum, and several other properties as well. Seaver’s team admitted to being “dismayed by the unexpected and, so far, unexplained actions.”

In particular, many argued that Dolly Parton’s family fighting over her massive fortune is not what she would have wanted. “Dolly would be so upset that her family were fighting,” one fan commented under TMZ’s Instagram post. Another added, “Damn. Dolly was an astute business woman so I’m sure she had her affairs in order. But her family is really big so there was bound to be drama. Smh.” It seems, however, that there are more players in the game than just the “Jolene” hitmaker’s family. According to TMZ, Parton’s manager, Danny Nozell, and Pinnacle Bank were behind Bryan Seaver’s termination.
“We remain unshakably resolved to fulfill her final directive to protect her family,” he clarified. “And we refuse to be intimidated by those whose actions we believe are being taken in bad faith and with the intent to profit from the life of someone who willingly gave so much.” In Seaver’s Instagram video announcing her passing, Parton’s longtime security guard thanked his aunt for giving him the opportunity to work for her, noting, “Dolly opened doors not just for me, but for her entire family to reach the potential we didn’t even know was possible.” Those words sting in the wake of his firing.
