Netflix's Newest Drama Series Gets Renewed Less Than 2 Weeks After Premiere

The newest drama series from Netflix has become an instant hit. After becoming a streaming sensation, the series has already been renewed for a second season.

Crew Girl debuted on Netflix on Sept. 10. Less than two weeks later, the streamer announced that the series has been officially renewed. The company touted the series for debuting in the Netflix English TV Top 10, where it has remained since its launch. This week, it rose to the No. 2 spot, and reached the Top 10 in over 90 countries with more than 16 million views. That kind of viewership made it easy for Netflix to move forward with a second season.

Crew Girl Season 2 Is “Going to Be a Ride”

Addressing the renewal, series star Miku Martineau stated, “I am beyond excited for Crew Girl Season 2! There’s so much left to explore with the characters, the romances, and the rowing team, it’s going to be a ride for sure! All I know is that it will definitely be a packed, juicy, drama filled second season so I’m ready to get back in a boat and on camera! #teamteagan”

Along with Miku Martineau (Star Trek: Section 31), the series stars Jessica Paré (Seal Team), Sam Braun (The Marshmallow Experiment), Kyle Clark (Hello, Goodbye and Everything), and Thomas Cadrot (Scream). It was developed by Vivian Lin (SkyMed) and Morwyn Brebner (Anna Pigeon).

Lin also executive produced alongside Jeff Norton, Lindsay Macadam, Hillary Zwick Turner, Tony Chung, Lori Massini, and Matthew Hornburg, Mark J.W. Bishop, and Jennifer McCarron for Blue Ant Studios.

The Coming-of-Age Drama Continues at Netflix

The official synopsis reads, “Sixteen-year-old Teagan Tao (Martineau) was a rising star in single sculls rowing until a family scandal capsized her future. Forced to relocate with her mom (Jessica Paré) to the East Coast, Teagan starts over at the prestigious Easton Prep, where she’s not just an outcast but stuck aground – there’s no girls’ rowing team. Her only way to the water is to take the helm of the school’s notoriously dysfunctional boys’ varsity crew as their coxswain.”

“Thrust into a world of old money and brutal competition, Teagan must find a way to lead a team that doesn’t want her and somehow bring them together,” it continues. “As she juggles her own rowing ambitions, the demands of the boys’ crew, and her family’s escalating complications, she also finds herself unexpectedly caught in the orbit of the team’s two most competitive rivals: the arrogant team captain, Josh Regis (Braun), and the quiet but intensely driven underdog, Cam Dillinger (Clark).”

Crew Girl is streaming on Netflix. The first season, which has a positive Rotten Tomatoes score, consists of eight episodes. A premiere date has not yet been set for the second season.
