In Rebuilding, the versatile British actor Josh O’Connor plays a modern-day American cowboy whose life lies in ruins. His farm has been reduced to ashes by a wildfire and his marriage is in a similar state.
The loss of his livelihood could be the last blow, but as he moves into a shabby trailer and slowly begins to rebuild his relationship with his daughter, we see that not all is lost. The turning point comes when she needs wifi to do her homework and he drives her into town to use the library’s. It’s closed but the wifi is still on so they sit in his pick-up and finish her homework under the stars.
Somewhere between Nomadland and Train Dreams, it’s a properly lovely film and co-stars The White Lotus’s Meghann Fahy and Weapons Oscar winner Amy Madigan. (95 minutes)
