Amid plenty of brotherly bad blood, it seems that Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and William, Prince of Wales, finally found something they can agree on, and it has to do with their late mother. Charles Spencer’s new memoir “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister” was released on September 22, and it’s surely a hot topic among members of the royal family. Interestingly, when Harry and William were asked about the book, they seemed to be something they rarely ever are: on the same page.
Princess Diana’s brother’s new tell-all may have shut down conspiracies about her death, but it also presented a grim reality. The memoir details King Charles III’s cold comments on Diana’s death and exposes his jealousy. Surely Harry and William both have opinions on this scandalous book about their mother. Apparently, though, they have no interest in sharing those opinions — at least not yet. The day ahead of the book’s release, Harry arrived at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel to attend the WellChild Awards. While entering the hotel, he was questioned by a reporter: “Have you spoken to your uncle in the last few days?” (via People). Harry did not take this opportunity to comment. The same was true for William, who was hit with a question about the memoir the following day. William arrived at the ActOne Cinema for an event and did not reply when a reporter asked, “So, how do you feel about your uncle’s book?”
A meeting between Harry and William could be imminent
While it’s safe to assume the royal family would like to control the narrative around this memoir, it certainly would have been odd for Prince Harry and Prince William to take these opportunities to speak about it. Even so, it’s intriguing to consider how they really feel about what’s written in the book. It’s also interesting to see the brothers aligned on the issue, when they surely haven’t discussed it.
There have been signs that Harry’s move to the U.K. could end his feud with William. In fact, rumor has it that William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, are reportedly ready for a sit down with Harry and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex. If this does happen, though, it almost surely isn’t because William is eager to catch up with his estranged brother. “William is extremely concerned about what Harry’s return to Britain will mean for working members of the family. It may well be too risky for them to just sit back and let Harry make the next move,” an insider told royal expert Duncan Larcombe earlier this month, per Woman & Home. “There are suggestions that they feel they have no choice but to ask … for a face-to-face meeting to discuss the future and lay down, or at least reiterate, some of the rules,” they added. If they go through with it, perhaps the brothers will be more aligned in the near future.
